Maria L. Case
Voice Adjudicator
Maria Case is a dynamic and highly regarded educator and artist in Toronto’s musical community.
As Chief Examiner Emeritus for Theoretical Subjects at the Royal Conservatory of Music, she is a respected adjudicator, teacher, and lecturer on piano and theory pedagogy. She is also an accomplished pianist and vocal recitalist, a frequent adjudicator at festivals and competitions. a choral conductor, and an award-winning composer.
Since 2005, Maria has served as Artistic Director of The Annex Singers, a Toronto-based choir that she leads with brio and imaginative  programming. She is additionally Music Director of Glebe Road United Church in Toronto.
The majority of Maria’s compositions celebrate the voice and are inspired by texts from a wide range of texts and traditions. Many of her choral works have been written for and premiered by The Annex Singers. Her most recent choral works are  In Winter, O Living Flame, The World’s Desire, and the song cycles Empty Wake, Nightsongs, Into Flight, and Gallery. Her vocal works are published by Plangere.
Maria holds the ARCT Performance Diploma in Piano and Voice from the RCM, as well as a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Toronto. Her other studies include English literature at the graduate level, conducting, and jazz at the Berklee College of Music.
