Marjorie Sparks - Voice
Marjorie Sparks is originally from Manitoba. She studied at Brandon University and then completed her Bachelor of Music in Performance at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. After completing her degree she sang professionally in Montreal with such groups as the Tudor Singers directed by Wayne Riddell and the SMAM directed by Christopher Jackson.  Marjorie then  returned to university studies in Toronto Ontario ,studying at the University of Toronto Opera School and and The Faculty of Education,graduating with a Bachelor of Education in Music. Her professional work continued in Toronto and throughput Ontario. She sang with The Canadian Opera Company, Opera in Concert, and Opera Atelier under the direction of Marshall Pynkowski. Her Oratorio engagements took her to Winnipeg, London, Toronto and many more performances singing Handel’s Messiah and Bach Oratorios.. She recorded for Classical Kids Label singing the role of The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Fantasy. Marjorie has presented many successful recitals. She loves the song repertoire very much and the musical and interpretive benefits it offers her.Her interpretation of especially German Lieder has been highly praised.. Her church and choral singing is extensive. She was soprano soloist with Trinity St Paul’s United Church for many years and a cantor at St. Patrick's Church in Markham.and soprano lead with The Amadeus Choir under Lydia Adams.
 
Marjorie has continued over the years to develop her own vocal and interpretive potential with renowned teachers and coaches ,such as Marie Daveluy, Mary Morrison, Stuart Hamilton and Brahm Goldhamer. Her constant passion  to understand the human voice and it’s potential has lead her to a very successful teaching career for the past twenty years. Presently,her studio, The Marjorie Sparks Voice Studio, continues to flourish. She has taught numerous talented and successful singers. Marjorie also has presented Summer Voice Programs, Workshops for Choirs, and has Adjudicated Voice Festivals throughout Ontario.
 
Ms. Sparks is pleased to be part of the Pickering Festival this year and contribute to it’s long standing excellence in support for music in our communities.
