Orange Shirt Day Commemoration
Residential Schools

The Rotary Club of Pickering and HIP are proud to team up to host the Orange Shirt Day event. Orange Shirt Day commemorates the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation. Chief Justice Murray Sinclair challenged all of the participants to keep the reconciliation process alive, as a result of the realization that every former student had similar stories.

To commeroate, we will gather & listen to the following speakers. 

Kahontakwas, Diane Longboat is from the Mohawk Nation, Turtle Clan, a traditional teacher from Six Nations Grand River Territory

Phyllis Webstad , Northern Secwpemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation

Dawn Hill, member of the Board of Directors for Mohawk Village Memorial Park and a Mohawk Residential School Survivor
